MEHER’S GUIDE · Mixed traditions / interfaith

Two families, a shared beginning

“You don’t have to fit two families into one template. Let’s give each meaningful moment its place and agree what you’re keeping, adapting or creating together.”

Understanding the celebration

A mixed-tradition or interfaith wedding can make room for more than one meaningful ceremony or gathering. Start by agreeing what each of you wants to include, adapt or leave out. Check proposed ceremony combinations with the officiants involved.

A little breathing room

Give each ceremony enough time and avoid assuming two traditions can be combined into one shortened sequence. Coordinate venues, clothing changes, meals and travel around the experience you actually want.

Help your guests feel at home

Explain each part of the celebration without expecting guests to know either tradition. Clarify when participation is optional and who can answer practical questions on the day.

A QUESTION FROM MEHER

What would help both of our families feel seen while keeping the wedding true to us?

Talk it through together. Your answers matter more than following somebody else’s wedding.
